Pasta World Championship in Milan & Parma

Our trip to Italy - to Milan and Parma for the Pasta World Championship.

It’s been a crazy few months. We moved into our new place in Chicago, almost immediately left for a whirlwind trip that took us through France and Italy, then ended back in the Midwest in Madison before heading back home. I’m eventually going to share a little bit about each trip, but for today I’m starting with the most logical place to begin – the middle! Italy! Jack and I spent 4 days in Milan and Parma at Barilla® Pasta World Championship. It’s crazy to reflect and see where our work takes us. Eating our way through northern Italy was a…

Our Chicago Kitchen Sneak Peek

In case you hadn’t heard – we’ve moved to Chicago! Long story short, last spring we left our beloved city of Austin and came to Chicago (where I’m originally from). Our original plan was to stay in Chicago temporarily for the summer and definitely(!) leave before the winter. Well, as you see, that didn’t really happen because here we are. I’ll spare you the details, but we spent about 7 months this past year jumping between airbnb’s, hotels, friends’ houses, and parent’s houses (with a marble slab in our car’s trunk to continue shooting recipes). After all of that, we…

8 Favorite Pasta Recipes

If I had to name 3 loves off the top of my head right now: #1 my husband Jack, #2 Italy, and #3 pasta. If you read the introduction in our cookbook, you know that so much of my love for cooking (and later the idea of starting Love & Lemons) was inspired by the trip that Jack and I took to Italy when he proposed. Last week, we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary, so suffice it to say (that aside from an airport snafu), love is in the air these days. So I was completely over the moon when…

Sweet Corn Recipes

Delicious corn-focused recipes for salads, chowder, hummus, elotes, tacos, and more!

The other day, I professed my love of midwest sweet corn and as a result, I got a ton requests for more ways to use corn while it’s in peak season. To be honest, when corn is at its best like it is right now, not much has to be done to it… I usually just grill it with a little olive oil and a few pinches of salt or toss the raw kernels into salads. But here are some of my favorite corn recipes that go a bit further and are so perfect if you’re up to your ears in corn this summer!…

Cool Summer Recipes for Hot Days

Last week, we spent a few short days in NYC during that hot hot heat wave. We did a bunch of walking, a bunch of sweating, and whenever we’d sit down to a meal I’d find myself ordering anything on the menu that was cold and refreshing. I had a wonderful watermelon gazpacho at ABC Kitchen… some pretty salads, and more salads. I came back craving some cool favorites that I thought I’d share here. Click directly on the photos to go to each recipe! First up – this Watermelon Gazpacho, blended with tomatoes, cucumbers, basil and a pop of red wine vinegar. This is…

How to Shop the Farmers Market for Dinner

The farmers market is my happy place for meal inspiration. When I feel really stuck in a cooking rut, I head to local weekend markets. Collecting fresh seasonal produce always helps me combine flavors in interesting ways (what grows together goes together), BUT it can be a little daunting to think on the fly at the market… especially if your goal is to come out with the ingredients to make that night’s meal. In the past, I’ve written about stocking up on produce and making a cooking plan for the week, but this time I’m going to focus on one…

Vegetarian Memorial Day Recipes

Memorial Day is coming up next weekend! Whether you’re hosting a gathering or simply bringing a side dish (hi, I’m Jeanine – the family salad maker), here are a few veggie-ful party recipe ideas. Click on the links or directly on the photos to go to the recipes: First up: Instead of meticulously assembling appetizers, you can set out a bunch of ingredients for this Mix & Match Crostini Bar so your guests can assemble their own toppings. Include some gluten free crackers and at least one vegan spread (like the vegan pesto shown above) and you’ll have all of your bases covered. It’s…

CSA Box Strategies + a Farmhouse Salad

I’ve talked about this over and over on here, but one of my favorite ways to incorporate fresh produce into my meals is through my local Texas CSA delivery that I get bi-weekly. The fruits and vegetables are grown from local farms and when my “bushel” arrives, the contents are always a surprise! There’s no better way in my opinion to eat hyper local than by signing up for a local CSA box – and they can be found all over the country. BUT – I’ll be honest – sometimes it can be a bit daunting. Finding ways to eat and store the vegetables…

Healthy Easter Brunch Recipes

This blog is nothing if not seasonal, so let’s celebrate the holiday where rabbits lay the most delicious eggs – Easter! In all seriousness, this holiday means two things to me – brunch with family & friends and the start of berry season (yay!). So I’ve picked out a few recipes you could serve at an Easter brunch, and a few that are less Easter-y and just scream spring me to me (I’m looking at you, Sunshine Chia Bowls). You can click directly on the photos to go to each recipe: Avocado Almondaise Tartines (pictured above) Shakshuka with Spinach and Harissa Tart Cherry…

Austin Restaurant Guide: SXSW 2017

Since I know some of you are heading to Austin this week for SXSW, I thought I’d share an updated list of favorite places to eat and drink in my town. I’ve written a few of these posts in the past, but things change so quickly! Here are some of our newest favorites as well as some old stand-by’s. I’ve also included some of my favorite shops and other activities in case you would like to see some sights in between meals 🙂 LUNCH: (although many of these are great for a casual dinner) Saigon le vendeur (pictured below) This…

Sweet Sesame Tahini Noodles

Sweet Sesame Tahini Noodles are a great vegetarian weeknight dinner! Made with tahini, lime, almond butter, ginger, and plenty of veggies.

I have more than a few soba noodle recipes on this site, but I’ve decided that THIS recipe is my new favorite. These noodles are rich, tangy, creamy, sweet and a little spicy, with loads of kale mixed in – I love meals like this for weeknight dinners. The formula is simple: sauce + noodles + seasonal vegetables. Check, check, and check. The sauce can be made in advance and the rest can be assembled fairly quickly. First, let’s talk about this sauce because it’s the main component of this recipe. It’s tangy, nutty, salty, and lightly sweet. It’s sweetened with Truvia Nectar,…
