Best Recipes of 2019

As we close out 2019, here's a look back on some of our (and your) favorite recipes of the year! I hope they give you fresh inspiration heading into 2020.

Happy (almost) New Year! Does anyone else feel like 2019 has flown by? To me, it seems like it was just yesterday that we were at the farmers market buying veggies to turn into pasta salad and zucchini bread. This year may have raced past us, but we certainly had good moments along the way. In particular, we released our second cookbook. I can’t tell you how much we love seeing readers try recipes from it and from the blog! Before we take on 2020, I wanted to share a few top recipes from the last year. These are recipes…

Behind the Scenes: The Mess & The Cleanup

On shoot days, we seem to dirty every dish in the kitchen. Read on for more about our photography process, how we make a mess & how we clean up!

I get a lot of questions about what the behind-the-scenes of running a food blog looks like. People ask if we eat everything (we do!), how I decide what to make (what sounds good/what’s in season!), and what kind of equipment we use (more on that later). But we have one well-kept secret: what a mess we make while testing, re-testing, and shooting recipes. We typically shoot two to three recipes twice a week, and by the time a shoot is over, the kitchen is filled with dirty dishes. It’s not glamorous, but cleanup one of the biggest parts of…

Dinner Ideas for Two

If you feel like a salad and he feels like a burrito, don't worry! This taco night strategy is a win win when you're looking for dinner ideas for two.

Over the years, Jack and I have found that our favorite dinner ideas for two allow us to customize our meals to our different tastes. Now, instead of cooking one meal for dinner, we often prep a set of components that we can mix and match into whatever we’re craving. If he feels like a burrito and I feel like a salad, we can cook the exact same group of components, even if we want to assemble slightly different meals. What’s best is that by prepping once, we have leftovers that we can continue to mix and match throughout the…

A peek into my morning routine

Over the years, I've become a total morning person. Here's a peek into my routine including the veggie breakfast sandwiches I'm obsessed with!

Today I’m taking a break from sharing a recipe to show you a peek into my world at home – specifically, my morning routine. For me, every day always looks a little different. Some days are spent shooting photos, other days are spent writing blog posts, planning recipes, laying out book pages, emailing, testing, the list goes on and on. Suffice it to say, many of my days are pretty chaotic, so one thing I’ve learned to value over time is having a morning routine. I feel like it’s a great way to ready myself for the rest of the…

Carrot Smørrebrød Crisps

Inspired by open-faced Danish Smørrebrød sandwiches, I made an all-veggie version using smoky roasted & marinated carrots instead of salmon.

A few years ago, Jack and I visited Copenhagen, where we ate lots and lots (and lots) of Smørrebrød. If you aren’t familiar with smørrebrød, they are open faced sandwiches with artfully-piled toppings on dense, rectangle-shaped rye bread. It’s the national dish of Denmark… that I’m about to make a completely non-traditional version of – but this is super yummy, so let’s just have fun and go with it! 🙂 Smørrebrød toppings vary widely, but many common combinations include smoked salmon and dill. I’ve been wanting to create a fun veggie variation for a while now, so when Wasa, my favorite…

It’s here! My new cookbook, Love & Lemons Every Day, is out TODAY!! I’m so excited to be sitting here writing this post, because the process of making this book was a long one! About 3 years ago, I set out with SO many ideas that I wanted to pack into this book. Over time, I kept adding more and more… and more. I’d think – “Ooh, this section would be helpful,” or “Oh I’d like to have that information on hand,” and “Let’s add MORE dinner recipes,” etc, etc. As I got carried away, the process got longer, the book…
