Love oven roasted chickpeas? These air fryer chickpeas are even better! They're super crispy, flavorful, and easy to make. A delicious healthy snack!
Air fryer chickpeas! If you love oven roasted chickpeas, get ready: these air fryer chickpeas are even better. I’ve been making them on repeat lately. Here’s why:
- They’re ready in 15 minutes. Roasting chickpeas in the air fryer is about twice as fast as making roasted chickpeas in the oven. Bonus: the air fryer preheats in no time!
- They’re INSANELY crunchy. Expect to eat a few (erm…half) straight from the air fryer basket. They’re irresistible!
I love sprinkling these crispy chickpeas over salads and grain bowls. Filled with fiber and plant-based protein, they’re also a delicious healthy snack! Season them simply with olive oil and sea salt, or try one of the seasoning suggestions in the blog post below.
How to Make Air Fryer Chickpeas
You need three simple ingredients to make this air fryer chickpeas recipe:
Ingredients
- Chickpeas, of course! I almost always use canned ones for convenience.
- Extra-virgin olive oil – It helps the chickpeas brown and crisp up as they cook.
- And sea salt – To make the chickpeas’ nutty flavor pop.

Seasoning Ideas for Air Fryer Chickpeas
The crunchy chickpeas are tasty with just olive oil and sea salt, but feel free to spice them up more if you’d like! Try tossing them with pinches of any of these seasonings before air frying:
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Smoked paprika
- Cayenne pepper
- Curry powder
- Chili powder
- Taco seasoning
- Za’atar

Drying the chickpeas
When you’re ready to cook, drain and rinse the chickpeas.
Then, spread them on a clean kitchen towel or paper towel, and pat them dry. It is very important that you dry the chickpeas before cooking. If you skip this step, they won’t crisp up in the air fryer.
While you’re at it, remove any loose skins from the outsides of the chickpeas.
Roasting the chickpeas
Transfer the garbanzo beans to a medium bowl. Toss with the oil, salt, and pinches of your desired spices.
Spread the chickpeas evenly in your air fryer basket.
Important tip: Don’t crowd the chickpeas! In order for them to get crispy, hot air needs to be able to contact them on all sides.
Most air fryers can easily fit a (14-ounce) can of chickpeas in a single layer. But if you have a smaller air fryer, or if you’re cooking a scaled up version of this recipe, you may need to work in batches.
Air fry at 400°F for 10 to 15 minutes, tossing halfway, or until crisp. Don’t hesitate to go longer if needed. The exact timing can vary based on your air fryer and the moisture content of your beans.
Storage Tips
Store air fried chickpeas in a loosely covered container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
They can soften with time. To re-crisp them, cook them for a few minutes in a dry skillet over medium heat, or pop them back in the air fryer.
